Poll Worker FAQs
- Must be a registered voter of Monroe County. Exceptions do exist for 17-year old high school students. Contact Monroe County Elections Office for more information.
- Election Officers can not be government officials or government employees.
- May not be a candidate who is running for a public office on the ballot in that district, except for Judge or Inspector of Election.
- Must perform the duties of the office in a non-partisan fashion.
The Judge of Election is the Election Board team leader responsible for:
- The Judge of Election is in charge at the polling location
- Enforcing Election Day rules and regulations
- Tallying and verifying the final results and closing the polling site
- Pickup and return of all election supplies and results
- The Judge of Elections position is filled during municipal elections every 4 years
- If a Judge of Elections is not elected, someone is appointed to the job
Inspector of Elections
- The Inspector of Elections consist of the Majoirty of Inspector and Minority Inspector
- Assist the Judge of Election and share responsibility for the operation of the polling site
- Process voters, accompany voters to a voting machine, provide assistance to voters with special needs
- Assist the Judge of Election in tallying and verifying the final results and closing the polling site
- These positions are filled during municipal elections every 4 years
- If an Inspector of Elections is not elected, someone is appointed to the job
Clerks of Elections:
- Assist the Judge of Election and share responsibility for the operation of the polling site
- Process voters, accompany voters to a voting machine, provide assistance to voters with special needs
- After the polls close, all Election Officers assist the Judge of Election in tallying and verifying the final results and closing the polling site.
- Clerk of Elections are always filled by appointment
- Election Officers generally work the entire day, from before the polls open up at 7:00 am, until after the closing of the polls at 8:00 pm.
- Yes, the Elections Office will provide training.
Yes, the amount vaires depending on the poll worker position.
- Judge of Elections is paid $135.00 plus $20.00 for training.
- Majority Inspector, Minority Inspector, Machine Inspector and Clerk are paid $130.00 plus $20.00 for training.
- No, upon arrival in the morning you must remain at the polling place the entire day
- Bring your lunch, snacks, and drinks with you
