Research Requests

Welcome to the Monroe County Archives! We are delighted to assist you in your research journey. To ensure a smooth and rewarding experience, please keep these important guidelines in mind:

  • Appointments are essential for both in-person and remote research. Our friendly staff is here to support you in any way you prefer.
  • Please note that the Archives is not a library, and there is no free browsing or item checkout available.
  • Our staff-conducted research is priced at $25 per hour, with initial results typically available within 4-6 weeks. Payment for the first hour is required upon accepting your request, and additional time will be confirmed with your approval. Money orders payable to Monroe County Archives are accepted.
  • Research requests are processed in the order received to ensure fairness to all researchers.
  • During on-site visits, you'll have the freedom to explore requested materials personally. We waive research fees for on-site research.
  • While photocopy services are not available, photographs may be allowed on a case-by-case basis.
  • For the best experience, we can accommodate up to three individuals per appointment due to space constraints.
  • Some materials are too delicate for public handling and will require remote research by our staff. Additionally, certain materials may be temporarily inaccessible due to digitalization projects.
  • All research requests must be submitted in writing.
  • By submitting a research request, you agree to follow our Archives Department rules and regulations.

Thank you for understanding and cooperating with our guidelines. We look forward to helping you uncover the fascinating history within our archives!
