The Monroe County Planning Commission has secured funding, though the 2020 Walk Works Program, to move forward with an Active Transportation Plan for the Eastern Monroe County. The study area includes Stroudsburg Borough, East Stroudsburg Borough, Stroud Township, Smithfield Township, and Delaware Water Gap Borough. Funding is being provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health in partnership with University of Pittsburgh Center for Public Health Practice.
The plan will identify strategies to enhance and expand options for walking, biking, and using public transit in the study area. Developing this plan would establish straightforward policies for decision making throughout the area with respect to enhancing and increasing access to recreational, economic, and cultural destinations through safe activity-friendly routes.
The project team is currently working on public outreach to gather opinions and perceptions on opportunities, issues, and challenges related to walking, biking, and using transit. A series of steering committee meetings, key stakeholders interviews are currently underway and a public is scheduled for from 6pm-8pm on June, 2, 2020 at the Historic Danbury Depot.
